there isn't a hell of a lot of help available for those of you looking to develop on my machine, mostly because i'm very much a beginner developer myself. i can try to assist you by installing libraries, etc, but generally speaking you are on your own.

i have also now started to include my 'solutions' to common problems in setting a unix machine up to do the professional services that have now become commonplace in internet circles. with the advent of FreeBSD, Linux, and other free unixes, many people who otherwise would not be able to afford the price of today's 'business solution' operating systems and applications can now set boxes up overnight that do everything the 'big guys' do.

these solutions work for me. i give no guarantees, no warranty is implied, and i certainly can't give everyone personal help. to that end, i have a short list of power sites to dig into for information on any given topic:

http://altavista.digital.com/. the number one site on my search list, this place rocks. they search the web and recent articles in usenet (newsgroups). the machine specs for their search engine hardware are disgusting enough to drool over.

http://www.dejanews.com/. an excellent usenet search engine, with article posting options.

http://www.freebsd.org/. FreeBSD's official web site. check out their handbook under 'documentation', it's always being updated.

http://www.microsoft.com/kb/. some of you are probably wondering why the hell i put this in here. many problems you may run into are actually attempts at getting the microsoft-type machines to work with your unix boxes properly. use this site to check for bugs in the Windows operating system's main functions, like network stack problems.
